Scarlet Weather Ripping

Considering I’m starting actual work on my game within a few months, it’s time to start preparing some of the resources I’m using for it. However, most of the resources I’m using as far as battle animations are concerned aren’t going to be made by me. Instead, they’re to going to be ripped from various games I’ve enjoyed and thought had nice animations. That said, I have no qualms about sharing them with Pockethouse visitors. First focus will be the animation SFX rip from Tasogare Frontier’s Scarlet Weather Rhapsody. These have been converted to RPG Maker VX size and will work without problems inside of the battle animations editor.

You may access the battle animations from the newly created Animations page under Materials. Enjoy the 100 frames of animations for you to use.

Overload

I’ve found myself with less and less time nowadays to really even make scripts (let alone have fun). Though grad school midterms are done, the big projects are coming up while piling on top of longer work hours. Admittedly, I’ve been spending a lot of time working on Project SRW to really even make other scripts. Thankfully the majority of the base work on that is done. On another note, here’s another imported script from YERD.

Last Update: 2010.01.26

One of the greatest things to come out of RPG Maker 2003 that didn’t appear in any of its successors was moving backdrops during battle. There was a front layer and then a back layer and it broke the monotony of a static background. This script lets you recreate all of that with ease and control it with ease. Just change a variable value inside the event editor and you’ll receive the listed backdrop found in the hash within this script.

Also now, when a backdrop variable changes during battle, its graphic will update and show the newer backdrop. This allows for interesting battles where scenes are constantly shifting and whatnot.

Hikimoki Action Engine Update

Time to share another script with you all from the Japanese community. Yesterday happened to be the day the action game engine over at Hikimoki’s webpage got updated. For those not too familiar with what this script is, it’s essentially a Rockman clone of sorts, which is very impressive considering the nature of RPG Maker. It’s also where Piejamas from RMVX.net got a good portion of the pixel movement code from. The update for the action game engine, wall kicking (or wall jumping) is now available. I thought this was pretty impressive considering I’d imagine it’d be difficult to do correctly. Also another thing I didn’t see the last time I tried out the demo was the bottomless pits. A bit brutal to make it an instant game over, but I suppose that’s only just to demonstrate the bottomless bit part.

Fooling Around Friday

I was just toying around today with the weather effects in RPG Maker after a friend mentioned wanting to a custom weather system. Well, I didn’t make it, but I did end up with a screenshot that looks like this. As for anything else, I’m probably not going to be releasing big scripts for a while. Going back and fixing problems with older scripts is on my to-do-list for the time being as well as Project SRW. That said, there’s a few updates tonight.

Restored Functions has diagonal screen scrolling added and Extended Movement has reversed poses added. More info in their respective pages.

Kiseki v79 Update

I’ve asked around the Western community about what they feel about the Japanese side of things regarding RPG Maker. Much to my surprise, they actually didn’t know too much at all. Now, I did say I’m surprised due to the incredible popularity the English version of Tankentai has over in the EN community. And so, I figured it’d be nice to introduce you all to another pretty neat battle system. Here’s a CTB system (think Final Fantasy X) made by Sabakan (Sabakan’s one of the best Japanese scripters you’ll find out there and an amazing artist, too). It has just been updated again not too long ago so I figured it’d be nice to give it a bit of spotlight. Of course, since this is a script from the Japanese community, one should expect it’d be in Japanese as well. However, this takes towards a different approach from all of the ATB systems we see around in the EN communities and CTB is definitely one of my favourite battle systems out there. It’s definitely something very fun to play with.

(´・ω・`)

Also, Team Pockethouse has finally began working on Project SRW seriously. Just what is it? You’ll find out sooner or later.

Halfway Point

And so, past the halfway point to YEZ’s completion. Or rather, I don’t really know what the halfway point is since I don’t know how many scripts I wish to create total since I’m making things without rhyme or reason. However, this is more than half of the YERD scripts already so I think saying halfway point is a safe ballpark figure. Regardless, this is mostly all done to get the dream system I wish to make for OverZeal.

Script Link: Element Status Affinity
Demo Link: Download Demo
Last Update: 2010.02.03

Elements and status effects in RPG Maker had set rates that couldn’t be altered no matter what the means. With this script, they can be altered by means of items, weapons, armours, and status effects. In addition to that, special elemental and status properties can be applied to the said objects in manners where attacks can gain elemental and status traits. Enemies can innately possess these traits as well. This script provides the affinity rate efficiency for your players to control on the battlefield.

Express Game Maker

Something caught my attention the other day. Namely, a program being made by the name called Express Game Maker. It’s still in the works so not everything’s completed yet, but I’ve been hearing things about how this will completely overtake RPG Maker and whatnot. I don’t know how much of that is true, nor do I really care for whether or not it’s capable of doing so. My views on this matter are the same as my views on having multiple scripts that do the same thing. If one doesn’t work for someone, another will. If RPG Maker doesn’t work for something, maybe Express Game Maker will. So far, it looks pretty good given its features and innate C# support. However, I just hope it doesn’t go the same track as Stencyl and stay in closed beta for seemingly forever. Keep it up and make sure it doesn’t become vaporware! You’ve generated another onlooker.
